The GSS Broadcast Cineflex Gimbal

2016_04_Cineflex_Elite on Sundance Helicopter.JPG

The GSS Broadcast Cineflex (formerly known as the GSS B512) is the best stabilized platform option for smaller, broadcast payloads. With five-axis stabilization and a 12” diameter, this gimbal only weighs 35 pounds (without payload) making it lightweight and nimble!

The Cineflex gimbal is easy to travel with and can be shipped as excess baggage. It has no ITAR or EAR export restrictions, so you can travel internationally with no hassle.

With Vector Steering™ there is no gimbal lock. The Cineflex offers continuous digital zoom through 10x and the option to integrate a moving map interface, like Churchill Navigation.

We have designed the technology to be compatible with upgrades as gimbal, camera and lens evolve so you can continue to use the latest technologies.

These are just the basics of what the Cineflex can offer. Want to learn more about performance, weight, dimensions, camera and lens options?

GSS HAI Heli-Expo Recap

IMG_0037.JPG

This year’s HAI Heli-Expo was one for the books for GSS. Our Managing Director, Jason Fountaine and VP of Sales, Nick Ricciardi exhibited at the annual trade show and had the opportunity to connect with many industry customers, supporters, and friends.

After all, that is one of our favorite parts of being in this industry- the amazing people we get to meet along the way that becomes friends. It’s pretty rewarding to watch the epic projects our friends and customers use GSS gimbals for. (Check out our social media to get a glimpse of where GSS gimbals travel to!)

The helicopter industry have been the biggest users of our products throughout the years and it was a lot of fun to check out the variety of helicopters at the show. (Like the Airbus and Bell 525 Relentless helicopter mockup!)

We are seeing exponential opportunity in the broadcast/ENG, utility inspection and surveillance markets with our gimbals and look forward to keep on sharing the happenings at GSS throughout the year.

GSS LAUNCHES FIRST FULLY DIGITAL ENG HELICOPTER CAMERA

11155025_10152897167004091_6623428365827663923_o.jpg

Gyro Stabilized Systems has launched the first fully digital ENG aerial camera with the nation’s most-watched television station. In partnership with Total Traffic and Weather Network, GSS provides a fully digital B516 for WABC-TV’s news helicopter in New York City.

The GSS B516 was configured to include a Sony HDC-P1 camera paired with a Canon HJ40x10 lens. The HDC-P1 is completely housed within the gimbal, eliminating the need to split the optical block from the camera body. Fully digital video is outputted directly from the camera platform, resulting in better overall image quality and improved low-light performance.

“The GSS digital payload solution provides a much cleaner video image when compared to other competing broadcast systems using a split-head camera design”, says Jason Fountaine, Managing Director of GSS. “GSS Broadcast Series products provide beautiful broadcast quality images with no visible video noise at night. Video noise in the blacks has been a primary complaint from ENG operations worldwide for more than a decade and GSS’s innovative and flexible design successfully solved the problem.

This B516 is mounted aboard WABC’s new Bell 407 provided by Helicopters Inc., locally known as “NewsCopter 7.” WABC-TV is the number 1 station in the largest US media market and finished May 2016 as the most-watched television station in the country. Its signature franchise, Eyewitness News, leads all other news stations throughout the day and relies heavily on aerial breaking news coverage.

Total Traffic is the largest provider of ENG traffic reporting services in the world, with services to more than 3,000 radio and 200 television affiliates.

B512+Ikegami HDL-F3000+Fujinon 42x=Amazing Low-Light Broadcast Solution

GSS was fortunate to get our hands on a pre-production Ikegami HDL-F3000 low-light broadcast camera to begin the process of integration into our Broadcast Series stabilized platforms. Testing the camera in low-light conditions proved to be successful with great sensor sensitivity, image quality and paint box control.  Once the camera becomes commercially available, it will be another interesting choice for professional broadcast applications.

Even more exciting is that the camera when married with a Fujinon 42x or Canon 40X lens fits inside our new GSS B512 platform. At approximately 55 lbs/23 kg, this is the smallest and lightest professional low-light broadcast solution on the market.

If you would like to learn more please contact Nick Ricciardi, VP of Sales.

Customer Spotlight: Papa Sierra

Since 1993, Papa Sierra has been shooting broadcast and production aerials worldwide.  With operations based in France, they are currently operating 8 gimbal platforms. In July, they received their first GSS C520 system and announced their adoption of GSS in a French cinema trade article seen here. In the article, they point out that Papa Sierra took several months to fly the system before choosing GSS against all competition in the broadcast and production market spaces.

Among their many projects, Papa Sierra has worked with Yann-Arthus Bertrand on Home(2009), a visually stunning documentary with aerial scenes from 54 countries around the world and French director Luc Besson.

Currently, they are working on Yann-Arthus Bertrand's newest documentary scheduled for release in 2017.

To say we are looking forward to seeing the results from Papa Sierra's future projects would be an understatement.

ittle White From the Sky

Pretty amazing kayaking edit from Rush Sturgis, and our friends at River Roots. The aerials were shot by Brian Wulf using Teton Gravity Research's GSS C520, on a beautiful day in March, on the White Salmon River.
